Abstract : The study aimed to investigate the relationship of social support in both the life events of stress and depression in a sample of male and female Saudi depression patients.The study was based on the comparative descriptive approach. The study sample consisted of 80 patients with depression from the Saudis, aged between 24-60 years, with total main scor (37.6) and Std (12.5).The study was based on the following tools: social support measure (developed by the researcher), Questionnaire of events of stressful life; translated by (Hassan Abdel Muti, 1994), Beck's measure of depression (Fateem, 1999), and the appropriateness of tools and their suitability for the Saudi environment and its psychometric efficiency were verified in several ways.The results of the study showed a positive significant correlation at (0.01) between the events of stressful life and depression in a sample of study. There was also a negative significant correlation at (0.01) between social support and depression. also a negative correlation between the social support and stress life events in the sample of the study. It was found that there were a significant differences at (0.05) between the males and the females on the total mean score of the life-pressure scale in favor of the females. There is also presence of statistically significant differences at (0.05) in the mean score of social support between males and females of depression patients in favor of males. The results of the regression analysis revealed that the two independent variables (stress life events and social support) had a predictive capacity of the dependent variable (depression). According to these findings, a number of recommendations have been made that can contribute to the role of social support in reducing life stress and depression. Which are related to the objectives of the study
