Regarding the Study of dealing with municipal waste, in general, and domestic solid waste inside cities in particular, Saudi Arabia, as many other countries do, pays considerable attention. This matter has become very urgent in recent decades because of the evolution and the development achieved in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in various fields, economic and social, and hence a change in consumption and production patterns. Also the continual increase of population resulted in a corresponding increase of the volumes of municipal solid waste. In consequence of this, the following study aims, in a geographical perspective, to discuss the problem of solid waste in the city of Jeddah, and how to dispose of these wastes by means of scientific appropriate treatments. The study owes its importance to the scarcity of similar studies in this field and to its orientation towards the establishment of future planning bases and principles that can help in the process of handling and disposal of solid waste in Jeddah. Furthermore, the results of the study can be profitable to other cities in Saudi Arabia. The study considers also the current ways dealing with the disposal of such wastes and recommends a process to dispose of them by scientific appropriate methods. The research has poured a direct relation between the volume of domestic waste and the monthly income of the individual, meaning that domestic waste increases in proportion to income rise. The research indicates also that the best method to dispose of domestic solid waste is recycling it. |
